Changing the color of the Red menu bar

Postby ShakaZ » Sat Jul 28, 2007 3:27

Hello all :)

after having installed Sabayon at least 5 times & having used it for many hours already i still haven't found out how to change that red color of the menu bar of most windows.
While it is well fit to the default Sabayon theme it certainly isn't so for most other themes the Sabayon users may prefer to use.
So the question is why does Sabayon make it so difficult to change this back to normal behavior, i.e. controlled by the theme we choose.

Just in case for those who don't see what red bar it's all about :

Yeeehaaaa at last i found where it was 8)

So to all those that have been bothered by this too, go to KControlCenter, Appearance & Themes, Styles, then click on configure (by default the Polyester theme, dunno about others), on the Advanced tab uncheck or change the custom color for the Menubar Emphasis option.

Thanks for your help Wolfden, eventhough it saw this too late it would have made me lose less time

However my quest for a consistent kde look is not over... i like dark themes & the ones provided by default are still not really optimal, i modified the DarkBlue theme but there are still some glitches as you can see here for example :
Image

1st thing is the Firefox menubar that displays text in black instead of light blue which makes it difficult to read.
2nd one is the tooltip that writes white text over a yellow background which is impossible to read unless you're an alien. I believe i've already fixed this once by modifying the emerald theme & then restarting the X-server, but i'm not sure...

Any suggestions on those two are more than welcome :P

Firefox uses its own themes that the OS can not control.

Thanks for pointing that out, changing theme did fix the issue
However as the screenshot above shows (not clearly though due to transparency), the default firefox theme was affected by the kde theme i had configured.

About the tooltip issue, it's almost fixed as after a reboot the color of the text went to light blue as in the kde theme... i only have to find how to change the yellow background to be satisfied.

thanks for the tips, all three of you. but i have a quick question concerning kinda the same thing shakaz had some problem with. the thing is, i dont know how to make the windows to take the properties of its theme. like for example, shakaz i'm using the same emerald theme you're using but it only seems to effect the top border. the windows stay the same color white. shouldn't it have the same black transparent window effect seen in the preview in the emerald theme manager? its kinda hard to see but i definatly notice the effect i'm going for in that screen shot of your konsle shakaz. also, it might have to do with the same thing but, was there anything else you did to get your home folder that color? i used that tip you gave but it didnt change anything. a push in the right direction would be very much apprieciated and i gave you my thanks for any help before hand.

edit: nvm, i figured it out already. seems that i can only access these settings in kde but i have to use gnome because kde acts screwy like not wanting to open my home folder and such. meh....
