Change window managers

Postby nicktheawesome » Sat Jul 28, 2007 4:36

I'm brand new to sabayon, and pretty new to Linux in general. I'm sorry if this is really basic, but I'm pretty lost.

I started out with Ubuntu, and with Ubuntu came gnome. During the sabayon install, it asked which window manager I'd like to make default, and I chose gnome because it is the one i know. (I also kinda know Xfce, but that wasn't an option). Anyway, I told it to install KDE too, because I figured it'd be helpful to have.

However, this gnome isn't the gnome I'm familiar with, and I do not like it. I liked the KDE on the livedvd much better, and my question is; how do I switch gnome to KDE?

hi nicktheawesome,
to change the window manager to kde, log out to kdm (ctrl+alt+backspace, or just logout), then click on "session" and a drop-down menu pops up, choose kde (or whatever you want), then log back in. and you'll be in your chosen WM.
You could also tweak gnome around to make it look or function like in ubuntu.
good luck, and happy sabayon-ing.

Gnome is gnome - edit and configure it to your liking
