Audio with a Sound Blaster Audigy 2

Postby jernau » Fri Jul 27, 2007 14:40

Hi -

I'm having trouble getting my audio working with the latest distro. I checked ALSA in the kernel management, and it's configured in there. Also, I took a look at the two sound card post on this board, since I have a MB native card and a PCI card. I ran through what that guy did, with slight modifications and had no luck. I'm fairly new to Linux so my understanding of packages is not extensive. However, I installed Portato and updated my portage db and layman one as well. Despite this I couldn't find any active creative drivers, or emu10k2 drivers. Anyone have a clue?

Hi jerneau and welcome to the Sabayon forums! Hopefully we'll get your sound up and running in no time. Have you tried to check if the drivers are being loaded upon startup? To check loaded modules, try:

Code: Select all
lsmod

in a terminal window (as root.)

Try running alsaconf as root.

And post your lspci.

More Info

Postby jernau » Fri Jul 27, 2007 20:41

Ok, I tried the three things ya'll suggested. When I run alsaconf I get the following :

----------------------------------------------------
localhost jernau # alsaconf
modinfo: could not find module snd
modinfo: could not find module snd
modinfo: could not find module snd
-----------------------------------------------------

After that it DOES load the alsa configuration tool, and detects both my cards. I can then choose the one I want, allow it to modify the file as it runs a script, and then it says that it's ready to go and to use my preferred mixer to set the sound levels. Unfortunately, I still didn't get any sound.

my lsmod looks like this -

I still haven't been able to get this thing pushing sound. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem or anything? I'm at a loss. :?:

Got it

Postby jernau » Mon Jul 30, 2007 0:51

Right, so I figured out what the problem was. alsaconf didn't umute the audigy selection...

and I didn't scroll all the way over in alsamixer

so, sound's working now and I'm going to go hang my head in shame
