This is my first go with a Linux system. Ive been a PC tech for 20 some years and have never HAD to learn Linux.

Im also doing a review for the 3d community i belong too http://www.3Dbuzz.com.

Oddly enough one of the things that kept me from using Linux was every time I started and had to ask questions I kept getting berated with smug comments (like I was in that South Park episode where they all start driving hybrids) like "newb", and "Linux isnt designed for windows users you need to think like a Linux user".

However this community has been very helpfull and not smug at all.

Sabayon FTW.

Now all I have to do is get the twin mode to work for my monitors.

Welcome. I'm a "Newb" to linux to. I love Sabayon and the help chat on the desktop has made the transition from Windows so easy.

What kind of monitors are you using? I knw I had some issues with my HD TV and twin mode

8800gtx mmmmm nice

That might be the issue due to the relative age of the card (even though its awesome) I want one :)

Are you getting errors?

Have you restarted X after making the changes? CTRL+ALT=BCKSPCE

Are you using the Nvidia tool to make the changes?

Wow this is a lot different then Ubuntu Ultimate. I was only running on the livedvd and had some issues already but hopefully the little knowledge i have gotten from Ubuntu helps here.

I am also a Linux newbie! kind of a shame cause i have been following it since 2000 or so. I have never used it exclusively until recently when i found an awesome post on how to get my Inspiron E1505's wireless to work with ndiswrapper. Since then i have only ran Ubuntu on my laptop. now I'm trying Sabayon on my desktop, it is a nice thought that someday soon i can be M$-free!!! (well my personal machines at least. I am in the field to) I hope i can change this menu though, i don't think i like it and not sure if i can get used to it. I'll have to see once i get this installed with Gnome =)

As for the broken compiz instead of rebuilding the whole machine i hope you mean just compiz fusion itself. don't know if apt-get is installed with sabayon but to fix it would be this easy.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get remove compiz-core desktop effects

Code: Select all
 sudo apt-get install compiz-core

yes I used Nvidia manager and I restarted the Xserver.

Sent a copy of the xorg to a friend via paste bin and he said its only seeing one monitor.

Off to read some wiki's I guess

Super Key works like Windows Key

And the shift f9 isn't working for me :(

How to change the Super Key so it doesn't work like a Windows Key. It's a simple script you can delete, like this:

(1) Open Konqueror
(2) Select "Show Hidden Files" in the Tools menu
(3) Go into ~/.kde/Autostart folder.
(4) Delete any file that references the Windows Key.
(5) Restart X

Such a reference is a shell script that is activated every time you hit the Super key, that makes it act like it does in Wondoze. Once you've deleted it, and restarted X, and your Super key should work like it's supposed to for Compiz Fusion

Shaolin.
