Problem with Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG with Business Ed

Postby fede » Tue Jul 24, 2007 9:06

Hello Everybody,
super mega ultra great compliments for these release.
Really excellent, and for an italian like me i'ts really greath to know that this is an Italian Job :-)

Now, let's come to my problem.
I've got a Toshiba Tecra A7 with this wifi hardware:
Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG

I tried the "live DVDs" for Standard Edition and Business Edition
Everything works fine with the Standard Edition, but Wifi doesn't work with the Business Edition.
I check the pkg list and i've emerged the missed packages into Business Edition with no results.

i'm going to insall Sabayon (and say bye bye to debian after many years!!!) in my office laptop, and i'm deciding which one....

Tnx!!
Bye, FF

wrong move...ipw3945 is already inside the kernel, so if you have problems post a dmesg and we'll see...also an iwconfig would suit

as you can see there are both reference to ipw3945 and iwl3945... but now i've installed only the packages ipw3945...

how can i remove iwl3945...?, if it shoul be the problem...

iwconfig stil give me no wireless, and /etc/init.d/net.wlan0
give me no hardware....

Thank you, Federico

here we go...
Code: Select all
rmmod iwl3945 && rmmod ipw3945 && modprobe ipw3945 && echo "iwl3945" >> /etc/modules.d/blacklist
this should solve your problem permanently!!!! if not look for iwl3945.ko and delete it

I tried:
modprobe ipw3945
and got:
"FATAL: Module ipw3945 not found"

Then I did:
find /lib -name \*3945\*
and got:
/lib/modules/2.6.22-sabayon/drivers/net/wireless/mac80211/iwlwifi/iwl3945.ko
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-3945.ucode
/lib/firmware/LICENSE.wilwifi-3945-ucode
/lib/firmware/ipw3945.ucode

I also did:
lsmod|grep 3945
and got:
iwl3945 78212 0
mac80211 142120 1 iwl3945
