Interesting thing that was happening when installing 3.4a on my HP dv6408nr laptop, the liveDVD would hang and just beep when KVM for AMD was being set up. Hard restart required. So that pissed me off. Also 3.4a was VERY unstable on my laptop for some reason, and wouldn't install (error was something like window:ParititionTable could not be loaded) happened when I was trying to partition the drive.
So I went into set up as sometimes BIOS issues can cause these things (press F10 on boot). The BIOS by default on this box has the virtual manager set to "disabled". So you will need to enable it in the BIOS. Once done, everything (except my damn Broadcom card) worked and I was able to load DVD and install on HDD (without any boot options like "nokvm"), KVM loaded fine.
Just for all you with HP Laptops dv6400 series (not sure if BIOS is same for other models.
Cheers,
Bryan
