Hi,
The other day I tried the Live-DVD of SabayonLinix_3.3_x86_64 on my laptop because I loved the idea of an installation-friendly Gentoo. My laptop is an ASUS A6Tc (Turion X2 and nVIDIA 7600). Currently I have WindowsXP (33bit) and Ubuntu 7.04 (64bit) installed on it. However I have problems with Ubuntu not recognising the WIFI card (I have just tried everything), a sound card not working properly, issues with the Flash plugins, etc.
I was impressed because Sabayon live-DVD showed none of these issues, so I decided to install it, replacing Ubuntu with Sabayon. There I found all kind of bugs: for example, if you choose English as a language in combination with a French keyboard you get an error message and you can not proceed with the installation. Finally, I was able to find a lucky combination that took me to as far as the manual partition screen. There I chose reformating the Ubuntu partition (and the Swap one) leaving the rest untouched. I also selected installing Grub. Despite I tried several times, I could not get any further, because the partitioner was apparently unable to reformat the Ubuntu partition.
Questions:
- Does it have something to do with the fact of having another distribution installed there? Would it solve the problem reformating the partition before attempting the installation?
- Should I go for the 3.4a_x86_64 version? I mean, that looks like an alpha version, isn't it? How likely it is it will be unstable? Is it expected to be buggier than the previous version? When do you plan to release the 3.4 production version?
