dmesg and lspci?

Postby Sicundercover » Wed Jul 25, 2007 22:18

Ok were suppose to include info from the commands dmesg and lspci. What the heck are these and where do I enter them.

I tried hitting f5 at install and typeing it at the end of the boot options and nothing happens there. So I guess im putting this in the wrong place where does it go?

Also as of this posting there is a page and a half on unanswered questions on the forum almost all relating to installing 3.4.

Why is there no help one day after release?

We are still here but the weather is bad so my inet connection is useless.
Once you have the cd /dvd booted and loged into kde there should be a program called terminal.
Also just listing the hardware you have = same as lscpi.
How:
once terminal is open you can use "su" to become root user and for password = root for live dvd and whatever you made it for the installed part.

Once as root you can use lscpi and it should give you something like this:
Code: Select all
localhost ~ # lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03)

As well you can enter dmesg it should give something like this :
Code: Select all

[  132.105000] usbcore: registered new interface driver ndiswrapper

This is just part of it but you get the idea.

If having bugs trying to boot from the dvd then the readme file is your friend and can be found on the dvd.
Or if you know what is causing your bug say you have a cpu not supporting KVM / kernel virtual management then select the 1st option in boot menu on dvd and press F5 then enter this in there "nokvm" or " xdriver=nvidia res=1440x900 " or similar that is aplicable to your pc.

There is also on top of the website here a IRC chat function so you can chat live with other Sabayon users and find a fix for the problem, just great be polite , post the question and wait for current conversation to finish then you will be helped.

We also have the wiki / how-to guide on top of this page that can be used.

if you can not do the lspci then just add your hardware under the problem you have.

My wifi is not working.
I have a Dell E1705 laptop with dell 1390 wifi card etc etc you get the idea.
My video card is not working or shows only a black screen at boot.
I have a xfx 9999 pci-x nvidia card
Then we can help.
Hope this helps.

Well the comp I am installing this on has a AMD X2 5200, 8 Gigs Corsair XMS RAM, Nvidia BFG 8800GTX, samsung 22" and 19" monitors, and a WDC 7200 RPM Sata 500gig that Im partitioning for part linux part windows storage.

Also I cant get into the terminal yet cause as soon as I select install it begins to load and goes black.

Ran the checksum = all good
Checked the burn = All good

So far Ive tried multiple resoulutions Ive unplugged the wide screen and still nothing.

I think the chips on the motherboard needs a specific driver to load. ( north bridge / south bridge / sata chips )
You can possibly look at gentoo.org and see if anyone has that model motherboard and possible info they have about it.
Try the chat on top of this page as there is more clued up persons there, they can suggest boot / F5 options at dvd boot to get it working.
