No graphics environment on Asrock 775VM800

Postby cartmanrules » Mon Jul 23, 2007 19:18

Hello everyone,

I decided to try Sabayon Linux and I've installed it on one of my work computers. First of all, the graphical installation didn't load, I got a bash # waiting for my input. So I decided to go into the text installation. It finished perfectly, and after 50 minutes it told me that it was OK. Then I rebooted, and it seemed it was loading, but after 1-2 minutes of waiting, I got a text environment asking me to login. It seems that KDE can't load with the integrated graphics adapter of my motherboard or something like that. Also, when loggin in as root, if I type "X" or "startx" it seems to load but returns again to the prompt, giving me an error like "no device" or something like that (if it's important, I'll write it down next time I boot into Linux) I've got an Asrock 775VM800. Have anyone had the same problem? Any solution?

Thanks in advance, :)

Hi, everything was OK, the md5sum and the burning. The graphics card is the integrated of the motherboard. I went to http://www.asrock.com and this is what I have:

Chipset - Northbridge: VIA® P4M800
- Southbridge: VIA® 8237R

BIOS - 4Mb AMI BIOS with ACPI, SM BIOS 3.0, PnP
Audio, Video and Networking

Graphics - Integrated UniChrome Pro 3D Graphics
- Shared Memory Max. 64MB (with the pre-condition of at least 256MB system memory)

Audio - CMedia CMI9761A 6 channel AC'97 audio codec
LAN - VIA® 6103 10/100 Ethernet LAN PHY
- 802.3u, WOL supported

I still haven't tried any cheat for this, ¿any suggestion? Thx!
