Live CD hang?

Postby Casval Zem Daikun » Mon Jul 23, 2007 11:10

I decided to change to Linux after some debate, I chose Sabayon since everyone gives it such good hype. I downloaded the 3.11 GB iso file from the downloads page, burned it to DVD and rebooted. The DVD boots fine, but after that nothing happens. There's no install of any kind, it just hangs there.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps it's a video card problem...

What's your video card ? Does your screen go black ?

I had the same problem with a ATI and NVIDIA PCI EXPRESS cards.

I had no problems with "normal" PCI cards. I don't know why... If you can try in installation Text mode

I have an Intel Graphics Controller, some piece of crap from nearly 6 years ago.
I've tried graphical and text installation, when I choose either the screen goes black and sits there.

You probably just need to boot using one or more of the boot codes (press f5 on boot menu to enter them at the end of default boot parameters)

List of codes here ... http://www.sabayonlinux.org/wiki/index.php?title=Sabayon_Linux#Boot_Methods_for_special_ways_of_using_Sabayon

i.e xdriver=i810

I just tried using different kinds of boot codes, but everytime I use them I get an IO error and can't read from the disc. I even tried normally starting the install process and it's still giving me an error on both discs, one of the full version and the other is the mini ed.

I'm starting to think Linux wasn't meant for me. >_>

Its possible that both disks are bad burns, have you tried burning the disc at a lower speed?
Also, did you check the md5?
Finally, 3.4 is out now you might want to download that and see if that helps.
