Masked package help for Sabayon newbie, please

Postby rebbi » Sat Jul 21, 2007 16:20

Hi,

I've just installed Business Edition 1.0 and would like to get the screen resolution on my HP laptop with Intel 945 chipset up to its native 1280 x 800 resolution.

Following an article in the Wiki, I tried:

emerge 915resolution xf86-video-i810

And got this:

Calculating dependencies -
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "915resolution" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- sys-apps/915resolution-0.5.3 (masked by: ~x86 keyword)
- sys-apps/915resolution-0.5.3-r1 (masked by: ~x86 keyword)
- sys-apps/915resolution-0.5.2-r1 (masked by: ~x86 keyword)

I've tried to read the Wiki stuff on dealing with masked packages and I'm still not sure how to handle this. Help, please?

wolfden it should actually be:

Code: Select all
echo "sys-apps/915resolution ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords

edit: ive added it to the wiki.

Nope.Portage kann handle it since a longer time without the "~x86" at the end of the packagename. It is NOT mandatory.Portage is accepting both:with or without the "~x86" ending.

Okay, that worked, thank you!

Now, can someone please explain to me:

1) What those commands mean, and why they worked?
2) How I can get it to boot straight into 1280 x 800 after each boot, without having to enter the resolutiion in a console?

Thanks!!!

I never knew that, still its probably better to teach new people the slightly longer way as it doesnt seam to work with keywords such as '**' and you could end up just confusing them more.

So if you leave off the qualifier at the end of the keyword atom, is that equivilant to "**" or equivilant to "~x86"?

(Or am I just not understanding at all what's going on here?) :)
