My wireless connects and works fine, but KNetworkManager only displays two signal strengths: Either nothing (if the network doesn't exist, like if I were to enter a fake ESSID), and 100%, for all networks. This makes it tough to select an open network, especially if you're in downtown DC like me and have 100+ around you!

Does anyone know how I can fix this? Is it a known issue? And finally, should I report it as a bug?

Sry you are using what flavour of SL and what wifi card.
Mine in 3.3 mini now / 3.4 loop3 / 1.0 BE all show % from 0 up to 90% in all of them.

1.0 BE you can click the knetworkmanager and should show you a nicer layout for the wifi with several tabs.
You can alternatively post / copy+paste the "lspci" info here to get a idea if the driver is working.
As root in terminal type
lspci
and copy /paste to here.

You can also use " net-setup " as root and follow the info there if not wanting to use knetwrokmanager.
Then type the ifconfig as the message there at the end say's and see if you have a valid IP.

I don't know what you're getting at. My driver works fine (Madwifi) and I know very well how to use KNetworkManager. I'm referring to an odd display bug.

The signal:
Only thing is to have a similar program run that states the signal strength and compare the 2 or 3 program giving results.
If all is nasty then no clue what it could be if only knetw.. then kde has a bug and kde can fix it or tell you how to fix it.
This link can maybe have a laternative signal strenght meter for you to try.

My iwconfig outputs are precise, so clearly KNetworkManager is misreading them. I'll be OK for now...
