No Display? 8600GTS

Postby monoxide » Sat Jul 21, 2007 4:59

I have booted sabayon from the live dvd, I am able to view the boot screens and hear the music but once it is done loading from the screen it is just black and my pc sits inactive.... I have a XFX nVidia 8600GTS XXX..... is there a boot option I missed to get this distro to work with my current video card :?:

xdrive=nvidia res=1024x768
Press alt+f1 to get to the text part and post the last thing that stoped or gave a error.
Ext4 fix should be out today , LVM = unstable , "partition + grub / boot" working on fix.

This warning is normal first few times. It sounds like it ends at or close to the video card being identified.

Might have to force it to be vesa or " xdriver=vesa nonvidia " and then once inside you can fix this.
I presume but not sure that the driver has a tough time to identify the card as the bios code id for the card in the card is not part of the list for nvidia.

Check gentoo.org forums for your card as someone there would have had this problem already and possibly a fix for this.
I am sure someone here will post a better answer a bit later on.

You could also boot with " nox " or no xdriver and this will end up as text login as root and could then possibly run a new driver install or similar to fix this , provided it is the video driver having a problem.

You are using 3.3 / 3.4 loop ? / 1.0 BE of sabayon ?

Should be same driver as the SL 1.0 BE nvidia 100.?? , 3.4 final should be out / availabe at or close to this monday. Maybe check for this driver and your card in gentoo or google for it maybe someone has posted success or failure but it should work as it does for the 8800gtx .
