Business Edition - World upgrade?

Postby ThinkBayon » Fri Jul 20, 2007 15:40

The new Business Edition, as far as I know, is based on the Stable branch (as if I know a damn thing about Gentoo or Portage). To be brief, does this mean that I can use:
Code: Select all
# emerge -uavDN world

based on this Gentoo wiki page without breaking my system? I'm well aware of the past warnings of not using emerge world in Sabayon, but I'm hoping that the use of the stable branch overcomes this.

Yes it works but might give a error , something about KDE 3.5.7 being masked and current is KDE 3.5.5 on 1.0 BE.

To bypass this you can edit /etc/make.conf and add " ~x86 " instead of x86 as x86 is stable branches only while ~x86 is stable and not stable.
World update is not realy needed as you would only really update the world if a security bug is there or say KDE 3.5.7 is fully stable then upgrade it. Same as kpackage and "mark all for upgrade / update".

Most important is

" emerge --sync "
this pulls in new updates list.

" emerge portage "
update the install manager.

" layman -S "
update / sync new art / eye candy for Sabayon overlay and or other Sabayon parts.

" emerge -u system " or " emerge -uD system " update or Deep dependancy programs update.
This will update the base linux versions and or pragrams that it needs to run.

World = installed software not part of linux base Os.

Someone else here posted about world update as well and wolfden replyed with a fix to keep it stabel and update --resume or something.

PS> We found "dhcp 3.06" is last stable version so check if it installs / updates above this number as it will cause some connection bugs. "emerge -s dhcp" should be updated in gentoo list by monday.

For real good answers Wolfden is your man for this.
