Re: Fusion problems

Postby zero » Wed Jul 18, 2007 5:36

Everything installed with c-f is
Code: Select all
compiz compiz-bcop libcompizconfig emerald compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported compizconfig-backend-kconfig compizconfig-python compizconfig-backend-gconf emerald-themes ccsm compiz-fusion fusion-icon compiz-fusion-plugins-gears compiz-fusion-plugins-threed compiz-fusion-plugins-screensaver compiz-fusion-plugins-atlantis

You may not have some of this stuff installed. It should not hurt normal operation
not to have c-f installed, or to remove it.

Decided to emerge compiz

Postby rhomp2002 » Wed Jul 18, 2007 6:30

I went to the Gentoo instruction to install compiz and did what it said. I got all the packages to emerge and install. Then I went back to the update pretend world and got exactly the same message that the packages for compiz were masked and the depgraph could not be created. And this is right after I intalled all the packages. Makes no sense at all.

I will probably go back and get rid of them soon but I do want to know why it says they are masked when I have just installed them and put them in the package.list file.

:? :? :?

keywords

Postby rhomp2002 » Wed Jul 25, 2007 4:51

Yes, I did. That is why I was surprised when it still did not work.

Thing is that I am not sure that I can even use this with my NVidia. I have an older NVIDIA Geforce FX5200 w/ 128K. Not sure that it even supports 3-D at all and I can't find anything that tells me. I am just assuming that 3-D would need more than 128K. Anyone have any ideas on that one? Because if it does not support it, then I will just have to figure out how to make sure it does not get included in any future updates since it just seems to screw them up.

All I am getting from the update is an unsecure session and 3 terminal screens. Not what I want to see at all. I tried to go back and do an update install, a 6th sense install, etc and got the same with all of them. :( :( :(

they work with all this 3d bells, very well ... trust me, and if not you are free to test sabayon livedvd ... easy to do and convince yourself ....

this is the second thing so good about compiz & beryl after the first, that is the wow factor, so well supported by sabayon in his battle with the big evil empire ....

the fact that all marketing lies from microsoft that you need a powerful desktop machine, preferably a new one, to run all aero interface is melted down by this small and annoying little details ... compiz .... that prove only one thing ... you don't need the best graphic card to run a powerful 3d interface, even if you are using directx interface, but you need a very powerful desktop machine, if you intend to run in backround a DRM spy virus.

This is what is vista, a DRM virus, spreading to all of us with pretty marketing tricks .... and bill empire is good in marketing tricks .... no one can contest that ...

As I expected, I am very disappointed by the compiz configuration interface. Typical poorly thought-out gnome design. With the beryl settings everything was right there. With the compiz layout you access one component's settings at a time, constantly hitting the back button to change the settings of the next component.

[edit] It's so poorly designed and lacking in so many options that beryl had that I've given up on it. Maybe it'll improve but right now compiz is several major steps behind beryl. [/edit]

Problem with the compiles in the HOWTO from the Wiki

Postby rhomp2002 » Thu Jul 26, 2007 5:19

I got to this point in the process with no problems:

Now open /etc/portage/package.mask and remove this line

# >=x11-misc/desktop-acceleration-helpers-3.0

Reference: http://wiki.gentoo-xeffects.org/Compiz_Fusion
[edit] Emerging Compiz Fusion

Now we are ready to emerge compiz-fusion

# emerge compiz-fusion fusion-icon desktop-acceleration-helpers

The line to be removed from the /etc/portage/package.mask did not exist. Then when I was running the emerge for compiz-fusion, etc, the ccsm-9999 module abended with a message that the autogen.sh did not exist. That was the 12th of 17 emerges. The first 11 worked fine. Not sure how to get around that one.

ccsm was broken earlier in git. It has been fixed in git BUT
the ebuild will need to be updated with "./setup.py build --prefix"

I'm having the same compile error. Excuse my ignorance, but could you explain this a little more for me? How do I update the ebuild with "./setup.py build --prefix"?

Thanks.
