KVM and VirtualBox together or??

Postby slmeyer » Wed Jul 18, 2007 0:22

Now that KVM is in the kernel - what does that mean for VirtualBox?
Can virtualBox use KVM?
Can they coexist or are they in each others way?
I have tried googling around but not found any direct info on this

Any experiences with that?

This is what I found:

KVM: Kernel-based Virtual Machine for Linux

KVM (for Kernel-based Virtual Machine) is a full virtualization solution for Linux on x86 hardware. It consists of a loadable kernel module (kvm.ko) and a userspace component.

Using KVM, one can run multiple virtual machines running unmodified Linux or Windows images. Each virtual machine has private virtualized hardware: a network card, disk, graphics adapter, etc.

The kernel component of KVM is included in mainline Linux, and will appear in Linux 2.6.20.

KVM is open source software.

Think this last link has some good info.

I do not get the unmodified linux or windows ? does not make sense as surely it has to be implemented somehow , unless they mean to say you can run it on XEN but then XEN is a virtual machine in it's own then KVM has no use if you have ot load a virtual software manager thingy.

It would make sense if virtual software does run better becuase of this or more stable ?

Hope this helps.

You can have several VMs installed on one machine. I've done, KVM, VB and vmserver all on one box.
