3.4 loop3 (cant boot CD at ALL)

Postby moab » Tue Jul 17, 2007 13:42

HI! i just got the newest OS burned on one of my cd's

i am using Sabayon Linux 3.4 loop3

something odd happened, i threw in the cd into my computer and tried to boot using the cd... it didnt work... i dont know why.

i tried starting windows up and see if i couldnt get the live cd to work with vmware and it still didnt do a thing.

so here is a pick of what i got when i tried using vmware

Image

it looks exactly the same as it did when i tried to directly boot into the cd and install the OS

can someone tell me what i did wrong? i burned EVERYTHING from the sabayon linux 3.4 loop3 file i got from bit torrent and for some odd reason it didn't work. any ideas?

im a bit new to this, so can you give me step by step simple instructions. Thanks goes out in advance to those who tried to help me.

good day all :D

ok... now im scared...

i tried to partion my HDD and i get the same exact thing...

i used GParted http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
and i downloaded the live CD and I got the same thing popping up.

Than i tried using Windows XP install CD to wipe my ENTIRE COMPUTER... hoping that i could get XP reinstalled and then get Sabayon linux propped up. Windows XP CD said it couldn't find my hard drive and asked me if it were turned on or connected... i had never opened up my PC...

ok... now im nervous...

im really wondering what the hell i did to my computer when i was going mod crazy with my ubuntu linux... ANY HELP AT ALL WILL ALWAYS BE APPRECIATED :D

Does anyone have a large magnet i could use?

As long as you can still boot into Windows, then you know that your harddrive is still there and working (at least somewhat). Although, with the windows installation cd not detecting your hard drive, it's a possibility your hard drive is starting to fail.

What exactly happens when you boot into the live DVD and try to run GParted? Or is the live DVD even being recognized? Make sure you have your optical drive set to boot before your HD.

In order to fully help you, you're gonna need to give us more information.

First, tell me if you can boot into Windows (the one already installed on your HD).

Second of all, don't worry about the GParted Live CD, you can use GParted from inside from the Sabayon Live DVD (which is what I always do).

If you can boot into Windows just fine still, then we'll concentrate on what boot parameters (aka cheat codes) you might want to try to run the LiveDVD successfully. Once you get the LiveDVD running, you can run GParted from inside, wipe out your Ubuntu partition and install Sabayon.

Cheat Codes: http://www.sabayonlinux.org/wiki/index. ... c_Hardware
(I'd suggest looking more-so at some of the last 15 options.)

If you want to add a pic rename it as something.jpg.txt as .jpg might not want to add here.

Torrent client if anygood has a "force recheck" or something similar to check it and make sure you have the full part 100% and only once the torrent program = yes it is 100% then you can go and burn the say 4x dvd at 4x or slower speed with old school default settings nothing fancy and have it verify the burn , takes longer but the you know it is good and will work on anything.

Might also want to check to see if your dvd drive has a firmware update somewhere on the internet as it might fix bugs that it has.

Next for hd make sure you have all the cable connected propperly and or 1hd+1cd/dvd drive as some hd's does not like to share a cable. Also try changing cable as they do get bad or dmaged and does not show it.

Windows should see the hd but might not format it.
Fix:
UBCD
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
This has hard disk maintanance software as well as partition and virus software :)

OR
If you can still get into windows then using Acronis disk director demo or paid for = very nice and safe and will be able to fix your hd be it funky partitions / overlapping or defrag or resize it just works. If this has checked it and found it good then there is another problem.

Vmware or virtualbox = about the same thing except virtualbox is free and it does not make my laptop unhappy in any OS , I had some bumps with vmware. We all can help with virtualbox and some with vmware.

Starting the dvd and then having funny error messages = modules and or stuff not loading or too much loading.
Fix:
There is a readme file on the iso / dvd and it has the cheat codes.
So when starting dvd use up / down arrows to select the boot method and the press F5 and add say noagp or nokvm or vga=791 or xdriver=nvidia or res=1024x768 before the --

If you can post the motherboard name and model + some other info here about what you have then
we can suggest and or tell you what options to load etc . and makes it easier to help.

ok, well i can get into windows and use everything as normal. its just that when i try to run the CD at all with sabayon. my monitor LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THIS.
http://img125.imageshack.us/my.php?image=slew1.png
[/img]

even when i restart my computer and try to load up directly from the CD, i still get this same text popping up. I also got the SAME EXACT text popping up when i tried to run Gparted. i can't get into sabayon because it wont load at all. i am sure its not the DVD, as of i get the same results with GParted.

just click on the above pic and you will see what i mean.

i really don't know what all that text means either. i tried installing ubuntu and i never had these problems before. (so i am wondering if it was something i did when i screwed up my ubuntu OS)

all of my hardware is intell based. the desktop board is D945GPM and i have an intell pentium D processor. my graphics card is a Nvidea 7600 (drives should work just fine) my audio i am not sure, but i am positive it shouldn't cause any upsets. i know for a fact that everything is wired right.

ok, when i use the cheat codes i have to be inside sabayon linux to use them right? i can't use the cheat codes because i can't even get past the BIOS part. it attempts to load it but fails so miserably.

honestly i don't think my issue is hardware related. i think its all software. someone explain to me what is FAT 32? if you clicked on the picture i provided than you will notice at the top it says something along the lines of

NO FAT32 VOLUMES FOUND, EXITING...

also, what is NTFS? in the middle of the picture it says
NO NTFS VOLUMES FOUND, EXITING...

i am not an expert at this stuff, but could that contribute to anything? as of, my computer passed all hardware checks when BIOS tried to load Sabayon Linux and didn't work. everything was going smoothly until it reached the end, which is right at the bottom of the picture i provided.

i know the picture i provided you all with is trying to run sabayon linux in VMware, but i swear to you it looks exactly like that when i restart my computer and try to run it with sabayon. at the very end i get this odd command prompt like thing. and no matter what i type nothing works..........

i appreciate the help i was given so far, does anyone think they have the one solution to help me seal the deal on this problem, because i REALLY want to use linux. Sabayon specifically. i don't want to be confined in Windows anymore, it sucks there after using ubuntu :x :x :x . but i kinda screwed up ubuntu so that it will no longer run at all and the screen is 100% frozen when i load it up. so i want to switch to something that i think will work better. that is why i really want to get my machine turned into a Sabayon machine. i hope i gave enough info. if there is anything specific you need to know about, tell me and i will do my best to give an answer.

thanks again for your help everyone. :)
ok, so if i download the UBCD and make a CD of it, that should allow me to boot into it. what tools should i use to get rid of ubuntu??? also, would this be a good idea to get rid of windows as well? like delete all OS and start fresh again.

lets say the problem is the DVD (HIGHLY DOUBT IT THOUGH) what version of Sabayon should i use that will give me the MOST stable results. I assume 3.3 final right? as i have heard of people not upgrading Ubuntu because they felt the newer versions were unstable.

i will try out virtual box first before i try to get rid of everything, i will let you know how that turns out k. also i hope i gave enough info about my hardware. ubuntu 6.10 could detect everything on its own, so i am more than positive Sabayon linux would be able too. so thats why i think its software related and not hardware. like i really did screw up my ubuntu OS beyond repair... (yes its that bad)

EDIT------------------

almost forgot, THANKS FOR THE HELP :) :) :)

every little bit does help.
