I think I know solution for install prob, but nd some help

Trying to install x86_64 version of 3.4 loop 3. System hangs in udev. Problem is agp. I have succesfully installed other Linux distros by blacklisting agp, agpgart, amd64_agp, & intel_agp modules to prevent them from loading.

For example, in Sidux there is a cheat-code break=fll-bottom that will break out of an installation while a minimal environment exists, but before udev tries to determine the machine's hardware. I can then go and edit via vi /etc/modprobe.d/bladklist that exists in the installation environment and add those four modules to the blacklist. The installation Linux environment will then continue, allowing an installation.

Another example: In Ubuntu, it is not possible to do a normal installation, but a text-mode "alternate install" installation is possible. The resulting installation won't actually boot, but a livecd can then be run and similarly /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist on the hard-drive edited, adding those four modules, and the installation will then boot.

I am looking for a similar methodology that will somehow allow me to blacklist those modules. Providing cheat-codes, like agp=no or noagp or agpgart=no or noagpgart to the kernel at boot time do not seem to work.

System:
e6600 dual core
4gb memory
ATI 1950x video adapter
965p Asus Commando MB
drives, case, fans, 750watt ps

On the boot cd or the iso is a readme file with all or most cheat codes you can pass at boot.

How:
Once boot menu shows use up / down arrows to get the one you want and then press F5 t see text.

Then add "noagp" before the --
Example:
xdriver=ati res=1440x900 noagp dodmraid insmod=ndiswrapper --

Should end up similar to this.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response.

No, so far that hasn't worked. There seem to be more modules than kernel cheat-codes, and unless all four modules are blacklisted it won't boot. I've tried the cheat-code you suggest as well as others. I've also tried just blacklisted agp, or agpgart, etc. and that alone doesn't work either. Its only when all four modules are blacklisted that the O.S. will boot.

Safe mode if it has that.
remove module but might still load it then later unload it , rmmod=agp rmmod=agppart
noagp noagpgart noamd64_agp nointel_agp this oculd work if not yet tried.

Is there not a way to disable the agp part in the bios.

I think I might have miss understood you .
You have already installed but it does not want to boot or you are having a bad time trying to get the dvd to load into live dvd mode.

If it is the dvd then you might be able to edit the iso and blacklist them .
If installed then there is a few tricks to try to get hd to boot into installed SL.

Might want to try the wiki or gentoo wiki / gentoo forums for a good answer.

Sry trying to figure it out as well.
Any luck booting without the ati card then once installed get rid of the modules / del them from the /usr/src/linux/driver/ ??? might even work for the dvd iso edit then burn to dvd. Later installing the ati card and get it working properly.
Also google for motherboard and gentoo maybe there is a easy cheat out there.

Hope this works. WIll see what I can find.
