Hi Eden,

Indeed, Blender installed without a hitch with the older version of ffmpeg.

Thanks,

I still can't
I tried an older ffmpeg, p2007033-r1 wasn't available for my system, so I backed up to p20070325-r1.
And I tried 'USE="sdl" emerge blender, still no luck ;

I mentioned this on a Blender forum, I hope a fix is found soon.

I just read about entropy, so I tried 'binmerge blender' . But I doesn't seem blender is in Sabayon repositories yet. Where can I view Sabayon binary repositories?

^If you want to check if a particular package is available as a binary in Gentoo/Sabayon Linux, you can check using the Gentoo Online Package Database:

http://packages.gentoo.org/

Just enter into the Search box the name of the package you are interested in and all versions in Portage will be displayed. If there is a binary version in Portage then "-bin" will be appended to the package name. Here's an example for Mozilla Thunderbird:

http://packages.gentoo.org/search/?sstring=Thunderbird

Another way is to use Kuroo. Again, if you search for the package you are interested in and it has "-bin" as a suffix then there is a binary version available in Portage.

There are not that many binaries available in Portage because the philosophy of Gentoo/Sabayon Linux is to compile from source.

----------
EDIT: I've just noticed that you can enter wildcard characters when searching the Gentoo Online Package Database so, for example, you can enter "*-bin" (without the quotes) into the Search box and a list of all binary packages in Portage will be displayed.

I run blender without window frame:
Code: Select all
'/home/jogai/blender-2.44-linux-glibc232-py24-i386/blender' -W

It runs fine, but still there is one error:
Code: Select all
Xlib:  extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".

Anyone?

Why did you download it? its in portage.

portage tends to include patches to make it work better with your system.

Because it didnt compile from portage. I'll wait for the 2.45 version of blender. Its a bugfix release so maybe its good then.
At the moment it runs faster and smoother than Vista, so i'm happy. I'm a little tired of configuring linux so i want to pick up my blender projects, so i chose the fast and relatively easy way.
I was surprised that it worked out of the box. I didnt know that linux could run applications this way.
