Hi, does anyone know if mythtv will be in 3.4 final release? Also should i use X64 with mythtv?
I have read somewhere that it is not compatible due to mplayer and codec issues.
many thanks in advance.

MythTV is compatible with AMD64. At least, I had it installed in my mediacenter previously when using Sabayon 64. However, when I reinstalled it I switched to 32 bit edition, as there is really no gain on using 64 bit on it (maybe a little bit on transcoding, but that's all).

Anyway, MyhtTV is somewhat a pain the .... to install and configure. Also you need first to configure MySQL and your V4L/DVB driver for it, so I doubt the Sabayon developers are going to include it re<dy for use.

Finally: if you are planning to build a MediaCenter-like PC with MythTV, then use the Mini edition and emerge it manually. It's not that hard (even considering what I've said above) and you'll get rid of all the unnecessary programs included in the DVD.

Cheers

No idea. Linux MCE is a whole distro on its own and AFAIK it includes MythTV for TV viewing, among other programs for other media types (instead on relying on the additional MythTV plugins). Never tested it, however.

MythTV is really a great software, once you get it installed and well tuned ;).

Good luck :D! Don't hesitate to ask here for help. I'd be glad to help you (if I'm not on holydays, of course ;) )....

BTW, the best way to install it is to follow the official Gentoo MythTV wiki:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Setup_MythTV

There's also a Sabayon Wiki entry for MythTV, but the Gentoo one is more complete and it covers also the different plugins.

Cheers.
