For your icon text, you can try the KDE Control Panel's Appearance section. As for Emerald, I still think its because you are using Compiz rather than Beryl...

emerald is installed but i cant use it to change my themes...man this thing is fun to get working

Ein? 'emerald' is not a Compiz plugin :D, but a separate program that acts a as windows decorator.

You should start compiz thing like this:

compiz --replace ccp --sm-disable &
emerald &

PS: in my case, it works better if I add the "--indirect-rendering" flag to compiz. Way smoother...

when i run that code it causes kde to freeze to the point where i cant even go into a console.

BUT i do get a small flash of the emerald theme that i currently have choosen im not sure whats happening but that didnt work :/

No idea. Given the "reaaaaaally beta stage" of all this stuff I suppose it might due to any incompatibility not resolved yet.

Maybe you should try in the opencomposity.org forums :(.
