Well, a quick way of getting rid of all the red would be to go into the KDE Control Panel, browse to the Appearances > Themes menu, and there instead of Sabayon, choose something else. I prefer to use Plastik KDE theme because I particularly like the blue it uses. Then, I customise my styles with Style Manager and window borders with Emerald as I see fit.

Isn't emerald the window decorator for BERYL?? Are you using Beryl as your window manager? Unless you are, it wont work...

thats true emerald is the window manager for Beryl, but when i installed compiz-fusion it installed emerald-99999 so I'm assuming that it dose in fact need emerald for its window manager....at lease i believe it dose, i know that fusion is buggy as hell but i have seen it work on poobuntu and on gentoo, it seems to me like the two arnt recognizing eachother, like fusion is running by its selfe and emerald is doing the same they arent working as a team! my emerald themer is v 0.3.0-svn. my compiz throws this when i run compiz-wrapper,
Code: Select all
/usr/bin/compiz-wrapper: line 18: cgwd: command not found
compiz (core) - Error: Couldn't load plugin 'csm'

when i start compiz i believe i get a dbus error of somekind but it usually forces me to restart directly after because it causes my comp to freeze

anyone have a solution or experienced someting similar and found a workaround??

im running 3.4 L3 and yes i know its installed but according to this wiki http://www.sabayonlinux.org/wiki/index. ... piz-Fusion

it suggests that you uninstall all notions of beryl and aqua

i figured out what i did wrong, inorder to get compiz-fusion to work you have to make sure you fallow the sabayon wiki from above and not the gentoo-xeffects wiki. so what i ended up doing was this

from a fresh install i uninstalled beryl and all its associates
Code: Select all
# emerge -C beryl-manager beryl-settings beryl-settings-bindings beryl-plugins beryl beryl-core emerald emerald-themes beryl-settings-simple beryl-wrapper beryl-premerge heliodor aquamarine

next i synced the tree, updated portage, and synced the sabayon overlay

Code: Select all
# emerge --sync && emerge portage && layman -s sabayon

once that was finished, agin fallowing the sabayon wiki i edited my use flags and made sure to add
Code: Select all
/etc/make.conf

USE= "png gtk"

i added just those two since the rest were already inside the file

i re-emerged cairo
Code: Select all
# emerge -1 cairo

... i then drank a coke

and added these fallowing keywords
Code: Select all
/etc/portage/package.keywords

dev-python/compizconfig-python **
x11-wm/compiz **
x11-wm/compiz-fusion **
x11-plugins/compiz-fusion-plugins-main **
x11-plugins/compiz-fusion-plugins-extra **
x11-plugins/compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported **
x11-wm/emerald **
x11-themes/emerald-themes **
x11-apps/ccsm **
x11-libs/libcompizconfig **
x11-libs/compizconfig-backend-gconf **
x11-libs/compizconfig-backend-kconfig **
x11-libs/compiz-bcop **

and i removed the two specified files/folders
Code: Select all
# rm -rf /usr/portage/distfiles/git-src && rm /usr/lib/pkgconfig/bcop.pc

then i erased this line from the masked list
Code: Select all
/etc/portage/package.mask

>=x11-misc/desktop-acceleration-helpers-3.0

after all that was said and done it was time to emerge so agin i fallowed the wiki
Code: Select all
emerge compiz-fusion desktop-acceleration-helpers

i did the accel manager trick and rebooted and baM!

it all worked like a charm!

my last and only question is how do you change the color of the font used for the icons for my desktop?????

i want a white background but i cant see the file names and such

any clues??

thanks for that wiki post dave_p_b you rock!!!

Just a note - you don't have to uninstall beryl

something new i noticed is that i cant change the themes with emerald...as a matter of fact im not too sure how to change the themes but emerald isnt working

ive ran
Code: Select all
# compiz --replace emerald &
compiz (core) - Error: Couldn't load plugin 'emerald'

and i get that error

emerald is installed but i cant use it to change my themes...man this thing is fun to get working
