Cannot install printer in 3.4 loop3

Postby darkscot » Wed Jul 04, 2007 7:57

I installed loop 3 a few days ago and all was well until I came to install my printer. I tried to install it via the KDE control panel as I have done previously but without success.
It is an Epson Stylus C86 and worked fine in loop2 and previous versions. When I try to install the drivers I get a message saying something like "could not install drivers, either they are unavailable or you do not have access rights to do this".
I have tried various drivers and tried as normal user and root but no luck. When the install fails if you press cancel the control panel looks up and the only solution is a reboot. This makes trying different options a very long process!
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Well after a LOT of trial and error I have managed to get the printer working.

VERY long story short I had to:

download the Gutenburg drivers as suggested by wolfbite
install the printer using http://localhost:631 as suggested by wolfden
use the drivers for the C84 (not C86).

Trying to install via KDE control centre is a total no go. This must be a problem with loop 3 as it worked fine in loop2? [/list]
