Well, this is very annoying. I thought I had it figured out. Then I log off, log back on, and the fallbvack is the window manager again. The only way I've been able to consistently get beryl to load at login is to disable the fallback.

To add insult to injury, my keyboard doesn't seem to recognise ctrl+Alt+Backspace! SO I change Acceleration Manager to AIGLX, hit the keys and nothing happens :?

If I end the current session and re-enter, I'm back to square one - No AIGLX desktop. Now I'm really stuck. Both ket combinations and SL 3.26 DVD worked flawlessly on my laptop. This one erm, doesn't?

One thing that worked for me when I couldn't get AIGLX to "stick" in KDE was to do a:
emerge --sync
layman -S

and then I did an:
emerge emerald
(this emerges the latest beryl too)

There is a sticky that says to use a fresh xorg.conf. I also followed all the xorg.conf additions in my previous link on this topic, and the beryl settings. Those should work even if you don't have an nvidia driver.

Lastly, my guess is that beryl in KDE is not happy when you use KDEs theme manager. I reinstalled to get everything fresh before I did any of the above, and have not touched KDEs theme manager since. I am using emerald for my borders, and have kept the Sabayon screen. I haven't had any problems using the cube, skydome or transparancy in Beryl Settings Manager.

The fix that worked for me was I re-emerged beryl. Then I set window manager to Beryl by right clicking beryl icon > select window manager > beryl.
Then it auto turns on 3d desktop.

Hope this helps anyone with an Nvidia. My comp model is a laptop, v6000 compaq.
