Whats the best way to delete Gnome?

Postby darkscot » Tue Jul 03, 2007 7:19

I have recently installed 3.4 loop3 on my Sony Vaio laptop and so far the only serious problem is a lack of disk space. Therefore I would like to remove Gnome but what is the best way? Should it be
emerge -c gnome
or
emerge -C gnome
or
some other method?
I have to say I do not fully understand the difference between -c and -C.

Also, is MPlayer part of the Gnome package? I don't want to lose that as I have some RM files that only Mplayer will play.

Not quite as simple as I thought, but thanks for the link!

you can install Sabayon without GNOME by choosing not to install it on the installer (3.4 Loop3)

I saw that option during the install but it wasn't 100% clear to me. It looked as if the choice was to install all three options or none at all? Perhaps it would be better to have the choice of desktops as tick boxes?

I've not installed Loop 3, but are they radio buttons like in the screenshots that lxnay posted on the Planet blog? If so, radio buttons are normally used when only one choice is possible/allowed (hence the name "radio buttons"). I understood from looking at the screenshot that only one of the desktops could be selected for installation. However, if it is possible/allowed to select more than one simultaneously then darkscot is right: tick boxes should be used rather than radio buttons.

There are radio buttons to select the default desktop. But there is also a tick box to select to install other desktops. If you select the help function for the latter option it lists all the desktops including the one you have selected as default. So I thought that if you unticked this option it would install something like the core install with no graphical desktops.
