7.1 surround sound anyone?

Postby GNUbe-Haxz » Sun Jul 01, 2007 19:55

has anyone sucessfully gotten 7.1 surround to work correctly on SL3.4 L3a??
ive tried a few things to ge tit to co-operate but it hasnt worked yet, one thing i keep seeing on the ALSA site is to install the CVS version of ALSA and then remake it, but i would rather have some sound then none, dose anyone have any quick and dirty tricks or tips to help me get it all going??

heres my mobo specs http://www.uabit.com/index.php?option=c ... &model=310

as far as i know im supposed to be using the Intel8x0 driver which i have been, but i have only 2.1 sound at the moment ...but i do hear hissing in the other speakers! i just want to get at least 5.1 because that seems easier but everything ive tried hasnt worked, i just figured id try and ask!

thanks for any assistance!

take care

A possible fix

Postby l3oddah » Mon Jul 02, 2007 9:03

when i want to get surround sound like on a movie, I use mplayer for videos

i run this command

mplayer -fs -ao alsa:device=surround51 -ac hwac3 "path to file"

you'll need to check your alsa device list for the proper device to use, i also have a surround71 device, but not a speaker setup like that.

humm that dosen't work unfortunately, heres the weirest thing in SL3.3, when playing Doom3(native) i get full surround sound out of the box, with things like Amarok, VLC, Mplayer, Xine etc. i dont even get beyond 2.1 i have yet to install doom3 on SL3.4L3a but i will when i get off work and see if its even able to do it like it did on 3.3.

dose anyone have 7.1 or 5.1 correctly working on 3.4L3??? would you mind sharing your ~/.asoundrc file or your /etc/asound.conf??
