Can you 'emerge' from the DVD?

Postby darkscot » Sun Jul 01, 2007 19:25

I want to install the Sabayon 3.4 loop3 on my laptop with all the boxes unticked on the package selector and then just install what I need. However, I cannot emerge from the web due to the company firewall. Can I 'emerge' from the DVD instead?

you would need the ebuilds/source files, this would take up lots and lots and lots of room

Ah well, never mind. I will just install everything and uninstall the bits I don't need.

why not use the great feature of package selector ( or rather category selector)?

Becuase it is a category selector and not a package selector. So for example with regards to Multimedia I want Amarok, MPlayer and Kaffeine and thats about it. But if you select the multimedia category to got those three packages you get loads of others as well.

then just keep note of the packages you want, then emerge them. i know compiling takes a while, but i am assuming you will updating your world anyway. it won't take as long as having all those packages installed anyway.
