problem in installing in dual core

Postby mayurgupta » Sun Jul 01, 2007 0:16

I am having a Intel Dual Core Pentium D processor ...
I tried installing Sabayon 3.3 but the installation does not start. I managed to install it only by changing my bios settings to use only single processor mode ...

Please tell me if there is any solution for this ... since my PC works slow in single processor mode and i am not able to have the smooth usage of the operating system.

i had a similar problem..
Probably this happens because your cpu is not supported from the kernel, just try 3.4 loop 3

you could just try using the 3.4L3 x86_64 and see if that helps

Code: Select all
I am having a Intel Dual Core Pentium D processor ...
I tried installing Sabayon 3.3 but the installation does not start.

Q? - 3.3 32bit cd , 3.3 32bit dvd , 3.3 64bit ?

You tried installing then failed then text install = happy with 1 core weard.

Did you get into the live cd / dvd ? and the installer program got stuck ?
OR
Could it not boot from the live cd / dvd without changing the bios ?

" Then tried text with 1 core and happy but slow. "
Q? - Does this installed work every time except it is slow including say kde or gnome ?

3.3 cd /dvd booting:
Using F1 or help and F1 to F5 you can try alternative ways of booting , " noacpi " typed at the end can help sometimes. Might even need to pass " nokvm " but the pentuim d should have virtualization on and even if off it should still work.
Bios = kill execute disable bit.

Also saying what hardware you have motherboard / model number , north / south bridge on it and pci sata / scsi and other pci cards will help us help you.

If you have raid use "dodmraid" on cd boot options if not there already.

Sometimes it is some hardware on the motherboard that needs a special option to get it working.

If you can get into live cd /dvd or installed or another linux distro then type as root in terminal " lspci " and post the text it gives it will help alot.

Hope this helps.
