gnome and themes!!! [SOLVED]

Postby zouzou85 » Wed Jun 27, 2007 8:23

hi all,
i have been trying to configure my theme in gnome. i have downloaded some themes from gnome-look.org, but when i apply the theme, it is totally messed up. with windows half black and half white.(i like dark themes). no theme i downloaded have been integrated successfully. the themes are gtk-themes.
Do I have to install some more packages (or engines as they are called in ubuntu)?
Please help, i am making the switch to gnome, and loving the speeds of it, don't want to go back to kde(although i will still use some kde apps such as k3b, and k3d).
thanx in advance.

is this on loop3?

I haven't made it into gnome yet, been too busy rebuilding/cleaning - but I never had problem with loop2.

Usually the theme will tell you what is required on gnome-look from what I have seen. I have only been using gnome steadily this year tho, so I'm not much help.

I will hopefully get to trying this out later today. What themes are u trying? I will also try and see what happens.

I've been having this problem since SL3.3 (my first sabayon try). I'll try to install these "dependencies," although most of the themes downloaded require only GTK.

few of the themes i am trying to use are:
H-K
H-K_blue
invert2
midnightosx
Cobra

Well some of those do have more to install and have directions that must be followed.

the problem is that when i apply those themes in ubuntu, they work perfectly. no extra directions at all.
i'll check the directions when i get home this evening, and i will post back with the results.

hmmmmmm I add a couple but they don't apply right or something. It just keeps changing the custom theme. No entry is listed for the new theme :?

that's exactly the problem wolfden.

I also noticed that the themes apply perfectly fine when as root.( at least in SL3.3 thru loop2) I havn't tried it in loop3 because i am doing some cleaning and recompiling.

ok wolfden,
I just finished cleaning and recompiling and upgrading.
i applied the H-K (blue) theme to the root user and i get a perfectly looking theme, but when i do it as a user, it is totally messed up.
here are some examples. at least i could be directed towards a solution
thanx again.

I fixed it,
I added the gnome-overlay.
I installed libboobs and reinstalled system-tools-backends and gnome-system-tools.
I know not a lot of you had this prob, but whoever did, hope this will help.
