Can't emerge compiz-fusion... [SOLVED]

Postby Darksurf » Wed Jun 27, 2007 21:57

everytime I try to emerge compiz fusion I get this reply

localhost / # KEYWORDS='amd64' emerge compiz-fusion
Calculating dependencies -
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "compiz-fusion" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-wm/compiz-fusion-9999 (masked by: missing keyword)

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

I tried emerge compiz-fusion and KEYWORDS='amd64' emerge compiz-fusion. all I get is this as an output.

I'm I really gonna have to edit the ebuilds to have a keyword in it??

Hi

If you look at this link http://wiki.gentoo-xeffects.org/Compiz_ ... ing_compiz
and add the entries to /etc/portage/package.keywords it should work then.

All the best

Dave

p.s. There's no need to add the keyword to the link. The compiz-fusion ebuilds will work on amd64 architecture.

Boy did i run into trouble
Followed the guide emerging cairo and unmasking the compiz-fusion packages and so on..
And when it came to emerge compiz-fusion it stopped, telling me i should have emerged with other USE flags or something ??
Since i am a newbie in the Linux and Sabayon world... those lines could just have been hebrew or some other foreign language...hehehe
BUT....i decided to try and learn.... and after some reading i tried again this time with :
emerge --ask --newuse compiz-fusion
Voila' :D it seems to work.. Just thought i would post this if anyone else gets the same problem.

HMM.. now i saw that next problem is already here.... wrong version of bcop or something it says.
Well... i will have to try and solve that and get back to u all...if i do not have a nervous breakdown

Problem solved :D
just had to emerge bcop-9999 and then emerge --newuse compiz-fusion again, whilst it continues where it hit the brake last time.
This is kinda fun :D

Now to the tricky part... how to follow the guide to get it to autostart.
Otherwise i perhaps could start it manually using Wolfdens command ??

Yes Navman that was the guide i was referring to and following :D
And might i add.. as can bee seen in my earlier post that guide does not work without some hitches.
However got the Compiz- fusion up and running by starting it manually.
Got a rotating cube without shadow.. and sometimes some other effects. Not much though, and top frame of windows disappears.
Guess it takes more than following a guide to get this working properly.
