emerging mplayer wants to downgrade my linux-headers!

Postby smolloy » Fri Jun 22, 2007 18:05

I'm trying to emerge mplayer, but it insists on downgrading my sys-kernel/linux-headers from 2.6.21 to 2.6.19.2-r2. I'd rather not do this because I'm not sure what other effects that will have, but an unsure as how to proceed. I've tried adding ">=media-video/mplayer-1.0.20070622" to package.mask, but that doesn't help. Can anyone advise how to get around this?

Code: Select all
sabayonx86-64 ~ # emerge -atv media-video/mplayer

These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:

Never mind.

I discovered it was the "ivtv" USE flag that was pulling in the old linux-headers, so I put "/media-player/mplayer -ivtv" into package.use, and it works now.

I'd love to learn how you figured out it was "ivtv" causing this problem. I've been scratching my head on this problem also, and I couldn't find anywhere a dependency for an older version of linux-headers.

I don't quite remember how I figured this out, but it was probably a combination of using the -atv flags on the emerge command to get as much information as possible, and reading through the mplayer ebuild file.
