loading KVM fails

Postby tcoulon » Sat Jun 16, 2007 7:03

I'm trying an install on hardware with relatively little supported chipsets (Gigabyte M61PM-S2). With any version of Sabayon I try, booting gets stuck at "loading KVM for AMD".

Is there a way to get around this?
The Gentoo 2007 lice CD loads OK, so this seems to be Sabayon-specific.

Have you tried to use safe mode in boot menu or F1 and some of the options there say maybe nokvm not sure if it will work or if it is a valid option to pass.

The force is with you

Is Master Yeda some relative of yours? I had tried all the boot options listed, to no avail. It had not come to my mind to "invent" the "nokvm" option, but it DOES work (at least to start the live DVD)!

So, as soon as I have time, I'll give an install with "nokvm" a try. I'll probably have to recompile a kernel later but genkernel should be my friend.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion.

Yeda ? no idea what that is. Warrawarra is like taz the tasmanian devil cartoon and it's yakity-yak or like listening to your wife and only hearing first or last part of the conversation / blocking long rubish inbetween. The inbetween part is warra warra or yakity yak you get the idea.

Not sure if the nokvm would work though but it looks similar to noacpi "no acpi" so hopefully it might do the trick.

If you have any luck plz post here so that they can add it to next release of sabayon.

Best of luck.

Typo: i meant Master Yoda (the little green guy in Star Wars).
And YES, it works - I can boot the live system. I'll try an install as soon as I have reorganized the partitions. So you can add "nokvm" to the list of the options you can give when starting Sabayon.
