need help

Postby ambidexter » Mon Jul 31, 2006 7:10

Hello Everyone,

I have a gateway media center edition - gt5040

Pentium D 820 (Duel Core)
Intel Viiv

250 gb SATA hard drive

Intel Graphics media card accelerator 950

1024 mb ddr2 ram

I believe it boots with the EM64T system.

Question?

What is the best verision of Sabayon for this machine and is there any hidden traps I need to look for?

You'll want the up and coming SabayonLinux rc2 x86-64 edition. Boot with option "smp" to enable use of your dual core. Boot with "xgl" to fully use your vid card (intel graphics 900 and above are supported for xgl). The 64 bit kernel we have is generic 64 bit processor, so you should recompile for your EM64T version (just change one thing). Also, if you still want to use media center, then we're adding media center boot options to the rc2 release which will fully use it :D Your remote control may not work though....but we'd be happy to help. Stay tuned for the mediacenter boot options ;)

do not get passed formating stage.

same as with the gentoo installer.

Is this a problam with the SATA drive?

Windows installs fine.

I have tried smp etc.

my question is

how should I boot the DVD and then should I change anything in the installer?

I get no error msg other then it did not work

Try use GParted first to repartition your drive, then use installer to set mountpoints - it work for me and my SATA drive, even I'm on Desktop with AMD 8)

Are you using SabayonLinux 3.0 RC2 ? (it does not matter if it is x86 or x86-64)
