I belive network manager cause that problem by resetting your config file every time it starts. I just uninstalled it.

You can uninstall networkmanager if you want, but I think the easiest thing to do is edit /etc/conf.d/net in your editor of choice. Look at /etc/conf.d/net.example, it is well documented and setting a static ip should take a couple of minutes. Once edited just type "as root" #/etc/init.d/net.eth0 restart and enjoy.

4walters I believe thats what network manager also resets, theres been a couple of people on irc with the problem.

/etc/init.d/networkmanager stop
rc-update del networkmanager
emerge -C knetworkmanager

That should do it, then just edit your /etc/conf.d/net and add your static ip (comment out any irrelevant lines) and then start net.eth0 /etc/init.d/net.eth0 restart

one you have your ip set in the net file theres really no need for any sort of network manager anyway, unless you use wireless.

@Ziri - just allow the network manager to keep on running. I've had the same problems as you after removing the network manager
