question about upgrading/updates

Postby dkarlmt » Tue Jun 12, 2007 3:40

I'm currently runnin ver. 3.3 and have been seeing some notes about ver. 3.4, but can't find any info about it. I'm guessin that it isn't complete, but I can't find any info on the progress of it. Can someone help me with this?

Also, when it does come time to update, how do I do so without losing everything that I have set up on my computer so far?

There's a sticky about this near the top of the General Sabayon forum.

What I have always done is simply make a copy of my /home directory. I normally copy it onto my Windows partition but you could burn it to a CD/DVD. Make sure you copy whole directory as there are lots of hidden folders which store the user settings.
You can then upgrade to the latest Sabayon and then overwrite the new /home folder with your backup. All (well amost ) your settings will then be back as the were before.
