Restoring sabayon's default desktop

Postby gallienus » Fri Jun 08, 2007 7:56

I've installed different linuxs over the years without ever reformatting my /home directory. Because of that I have a lot of config files from different distro's for kde gnome and xfce. As a result my desktop doesn't look like sabayon's kde, specifically I only have one task bar. I was wondering if there any way of restoring sabayon's original settings for sabayon's default desktop?

Hi

I'm surprised KDE still works with all those distros using the same home folder ;)

1)OK, to get your kicker panel back at the top of the screen. First of you will have to unlock the bottom panel (rightclick->Unlock panels) and remove the clock applet and the System tray applet.
Next read this thread where I described the other day how to get the top panel back: http://www.sabayonlinux.org/forum/viewt ... highlight=

2) Your wall paper. Open up kcontrol(KDE control Center) and goto Appearance and themes->Background and choose the file /usr/share/backgrounds/sabayonlinux.jpg

3) Now, the KDE splash screen. In the same section Appearance and theme choose Splash Screen. Select the Lines splash screen. Now close the control center.

4) To install the KDM Login screen you first need to "emerge kdmtheme"
Once installed, go back to the kcontrol(control center)->System Administration->KDM Theme Manager and click on Administrator mode.
4a) Next click on the Enable KDM Themes check box.
4b) If it exists, select BCOpenFuture.
4c) If it doesn't exists then click on Install New Theme and enter "/usr/kde/3.5/share/apps/kdm/themes/SabayonOpenFuture" into Location and click OK.

This should be enough to get you started.

Hope this helps
