no acceleration and slow sabayon?

Postby er.gochox » Thu May 31, 2007 21:10

Hello guys... i hope you can help me with this:

i have no knowledge whatsoever about linux... just yesterday i learned how to install stuff from source.. and log in as root in the console so im a complete noob here.

this is mi laptop: lenovo c100 512 mb ram 80 gb hdd 1.7ghz intel processor and intel gma 950 graphics card.

ok so a friend told me to install sabayon i had windows xp pro and i installed it in another partition of -my hard drive i did it and sabayon ran fine on my laptop with all the effects from beryl and stuff.. but xp didnt worked.. so i went to his home and we installer windows again from a fresh install (i formated my hard drive) and later we installed sabayon right again and it worked. i had my pc with both OS's... this lasted for about 5 days.

after that one time i rebooted i noticed that beryl stoped working so i went to acceleration manager and turned xgl on... y reboot and its off... i do it again close manager and open it again and its off.. wtf?
and after that i boot again an sabayon frezees everytime i log into my user... so i have nothing else to do exept reinstall sabayon..

so i erased all the linux partitions(/boot and swap) and reinstall linux.. now the acceleration problem persists AND my sabayon is seriously seriously slowed down... everything runs so slowly programs hang up.. everything takes like a minute to open.. so i format all my hd again..

reinstall windows and reinstall linux.. again the problem
now i reinstall sabayon alone without windows... still no aceleration and painfully slow os...

and i read the forums looking for an answer and i see a post from some guy who says he has no aceleration from the sabayon install but from live dvd everything works fine.. so i try it and i have aceleration and sabayon runs smothly like the first install :S?!

-but whenever i install sabayon i get the same troubles now...

-as i write this im downloading the cd edition to see if that one works for me...

-any help you can give me with this would be greatly apreciated guys.. Since i reaally liked sabayon and dont want windows back but.. if it is like this im gonna have to be a m$ man again..

PD: i dont think is a bad image/dvd with errors.. since my friend installed from the same dvd and his sabayon works like it worked for me at the beggining!!!

PD2: sorry for bad english xD!!!

i just posted a fix for this, open beryl settings manager, or right click on the beryl icon, uncheck Launch fall-back manager if beryl crashes.. then the xgl setting should not go away.. it worked for me on 2 different computers with this same problem

It seems I have this problem as well.. Every 5 or so boots, Beryl is not loaded, and the machine slows to a crawl.. I have to manually turn on Beryl, then the machine returns to normal speed. Strange...
