Is Google getting Linux friendly

Postby Surfcat » Wed Jun 28, 2006 7:10

Google seems to be testing the Linux waters with Google Earth as a native Linux application, and Picasa (which for now is only available in the US) ported using wine. In the FAQ they state that if Picasa is sussessful then future versions of Picasa and other programs will be ported. My question is, should the Linux community promote and use the Google products so that they continue with development for Linux? I'm trying out Picasa web album right now (Windows). It's a fast, easy way to post images to the web. Here's my 1st test album http://picasaweb.google.com/morton.chip

Picasa Web Album works regardless what OS - just need an internet connection.

I have always supported Google - I like what they are doing and think their email is best web based email one can get. Google talk is also a nice thing and works with linux thru jabber. Only thing I don't use is the Google Desktop - I don't care for any Search Desktop type program in windows or linux. I uninstall them immediately, I know how to find my stuff and don't need another application installed to do it.

I didn't know if anybody had any issues with Google or not since all of your information is on their servers. And it's not open source.
