Okay, hopefully we can help :)

First of all, what are you booting with, eg your boot parameters?

I'm assuming you have plenty of ram yes?

ecs 915p-a 1.2 <-- mobo?
Giga-byte GF 6600 <--nvidia based graphics card?

Just clarifying. Is the whole system crashing or freezing, or what? Can you give me a bit more detail in this area? Also, what window manager are you using also?

Thanks, hopefully we can start working on the problem. Also, RR4 rc1 is about to come out, you might want to wait for that to see what happens if you're not time constrained...if not, we'll still work with it :)

It always crashed with me too with the RR64 miniEdition. It usually but not always happened when installing to hdd. However when I ran it with my custon compiled kernel reiser4 sources (which I use for ubuntu btw) it doesn't crash at all. So I think the only possible reason left is the kernel parameters that it boots with. Maybe "irqpoll" cause the logs showed strange errors with the cdrom which is new and works perfectly except for the livecd. If there is a way to boot without the "irqpoll" parameter that may help but haven't tried it yet.

You can just edit out/in irqpoll out of grub.conf if you would like too after installation...the new rr doesn't have irqpoll or pci=routeirq by default anymore, so you have to manually type it in at dvd boot time

The kernel parameter that is causing problem is probably the PREMP (which is mandatory right now) which we've changed to Voluntary in the new rc1 coming out. But first we need it to boot up successfully.

Try "legacy" in your boot parameters also and see if that doesn't work...you may only get a prompt screen, but that's okay, we need to start somewhere :)

yes 1 gig of ram yes mobo yes vid card

it gets at random points and NOTHING responds so i have to unplug my computer or hold the powerbutton down the irqpoll? idk anything about lol but feel free to message me through AIM or another messenger and ill post my findings for other people to see if they havethis issue and i have a laptop i can go on so i can try something and tell you the results without having to restart my computer in the death os(Windows)

dang bad hard drives... just a question can you fix these on your own? take them apart? clearly no dust can be in contact but is it possible to take it apart and put it together again and have it work?

Its okay if you can't install at first. Can you try booting the cd with

"gentoo legacy noproprietary pci=routeirq" ? Let's see if we can't get a stable environment to start working from :)

Just after init from cd it waits a while at ':' sign. That's the moment to write "gentoo legacy noproprietary pci=routeirq" and hit enter ;) It should boot up.

I had the same - random freezes with dvd, however minicd works fine, so maybe you should try it too.
