there's a problem switching between command line and x11

... using ctrl+alt+f1, ctrl+alt+f2, and so on to switch to command line mode there's no problem.
But when you try to go back to x11 GUI mode pressing ctrl+alt+f7 the screen goes black and the keypad stops working!!! There's no escape!!!
it looks like the system hung up!!!
So you can do nothing but press the restart button on the cpu case to reboot the system.

This is horrible because a lot of people who works with command line are used to do so and I think a linux distro as good as yours should'nt look so unstable to people who would like to work with it.
I know that you can just use the terminal to access the command line, but I also think this should be fixed.
I mean no yelling at you.
I just hope this will be useful in a contructive way.

I'm using an asus p5b deluxe, intel core 2 duo 6600, nvidia 7600gt with 2 gb of RAM.
Anyway I also know that this problem's been faced by people with other machines too, so it shouldn't matter what machine I have.

i have the same problem with 3.4 mini (nvidia 8800gts, compiz fusion).

I'm having the same problem, well similar.

I don't have the problem going back to X11, it's going the other way (still using ctrl-alt+F?). Once I boot xdm/kde, I can't access any of the tty terminals (as far as I can tell, there is no signal to the monitor, that's how my monitor behaves)

Furthermore, on shutdown, I don't get the sabayon splash/texty info on shutdown. Just a blank screen as soon as it leaves KDE.

Would love to know what causes this.
