mount/umount as non-root

Postby ArcherB » Thu Apr 13, 2006 5:08

I just installed and seem to have everything working, but something is frustrating me.

When I insert a CDROM in KDE, the icon shows up on my desktop as it should. When I double click on it, it tells me it's not mounted... because it's not unless I'm logged on as root. What I want to be able to do is mount and umount devices without having to su from a console to mount or eject devices everytime I'm swapping media.

Is there a way where I can simply right click on the icon and click "eject", "mount", or "unmount" when I'm loggin in as a non-root user?

Thanx!

Try, as root to re-emerge pmount:

Code: Select all
emerge --sync && emerge pmount

Try, as root to re-emerge pmount:

Code: Select all
emerge --sync && emerge pmount

When I try to emerge pmount, I get the following:
rr4linux bryan # emerge pmount

I'd posted the whole log, which is short for emerge, but the page keeps reporting 404 when I try to post it without renaming a couple of key words. (I think it does not like the work p.e.r.l and v.ar, which errors whenever I use them)

Thanx again.

I emerged XML-Parser and that allowed pmount to be merged. I'll try the mount thing later.
