Rigo not responding when trying to remove one package

Postby Richlion » Tue Mar 12, 2013 19:09

Hello,

I just applied the recent updates that came in some 2 days ago. All is fine. However Rigo is giving me some problems. I wanted to remove some games and started with Kubrick. I found it, pressed "remove". Rigo asked to "accept", so I did, then I added Ksudoku to remove. THen all got stuck. I could not press any button, Rigo was simply not responding, I waited about 10 minutes and killed it by pressing the upper right corner cross on the window.
Now I cannot start Rigo at all, nothing happens. So this is the list of processes I have, maybe this will be needed before I reboot my machine:

I'll try again after the reboot.

A reboot should fix it, but for future reference, there were still 2 instances of rigo running.

Code: Select all
rysiek   13866 10790  4 18:00 ?        00:00:01 /usr/bin/python2.7 /usr/bin/rigo
rysiek   13882 10790  7 18:01 ?        00:00:01 /usr/bin/python2.7 /usr/bin/rigo

And one way to make sure all instances of an application are killed would be the following command (as root)

Code: Select all
#killall -9 rigo

This will forcibly kill all instances of rigo. It's not recommended to go around and force killing applications, but it will definitely kill them.

Do not use kill -9 unless you want to potentially corrupt the entropy sqlite3 database.
Do not use kill -9 in general, always try -TERM (default) first.

And especially this is why I prefer the command line to getting things done. *Just saying*
By the way:
Code: Select all
$ kill -l 9
KILL

So SIGKILL will be sent instead of SIGTERM.

Are you able to reproduce the issue? What are the steps?

I think I did. I think Rigo doesn't seem to like "multitasking", meaning I think I tried to click very quickly trying to install more than one package while another one was still ongoing. Although Rigo seems to be desinged to be able to do so, it may not be that well tested. In the end installing one package at a time, waiting for it to be finshed seems to be workin perfectly fine.

Hope this helps.
