Problem with admin services

Postby tek640 » Tue Feb 19, 2013 19:50

Today I tried to open shared folders to make a change and I get this message:

Then I try to open services and "users and groups " and also appeared the same message. But when I try from terminal as superuser everything is ok, except "users and groups" which is like this:

Does anyone has an idea on how to solve this problem?

hello tek640,

i confused a bit.Which is your problem exactly. You want to share folder in your network between two computers? And your system does not allowed you.If yes describe a bit the technical situation. For instance if you have samba or e.t.c
The second one what is your problem with the users and the groups? You want to make a change for instance to add user or to change a password?
Please help us to help you!
Thanks!

The problem is that when I try to open any of these three tools as user, shared folders, users and groups or services I get the message of the first screenshot, before even starts. As superuser from terminal works fine except "users and groups" which appears the 2nd screenshot.

Sorry for my english. :(

tek640 i use XFCE and i don't have exactly the same three tools with you.Every D.E has different menu.
I am trying to help you as much as i can.
I think that for run the "users and groups" dialog you have to be super user.Try to run this tools via terminal as simple user and see if it will ask you to insert the root password. If not try again but this time as s.u.
If you will not manage it there is also alternative choice from terminal(to manage the users and the groups).See the manual of the commands
Code: Select all
man useradd
man passwd
man chgrp

For the second problem share folder i am not able yet to understand you exactly what do you mean. Why you want to share folder?I am trying to guess(your problem).Usually we use to share folders when we want to sharing files between two computers (for instance via Samba) or between our system and (for instance Virtual Box). If you have only one computer and you try to share folders there is not point for that and for this reason getting that messages because you didn't set-up the appropriate application.
For the third problem again i am trying to guess, that services you mean that process that start during the boot?Am i right?
If yes,read the below
Sabayon uses the script
Code: Select all
rc-update

for enable or disable services. It has three default runlevels.
Code: Select all
boot
default
nonetwork

For enable services for example apache2
Code: Select all
rc-update add apache2 default

and for disable services change the flag “add” with “delete” for example.
Code: Select all
rc-update delete apache2

Now if you want to see the list from all the running services at your run level and check their status.
Code: Select all
rc-status --all

First of all probably the problem starts after last update, I am not sure.
Second, these tools I could open as user before the problem, but when I tried to make a change the system asked for root password.
Third all the commands you suggest, I know how to use them, I have read wiki etc, but if I have the option to do anything from gui I prefer it. I dont want to offence you.

Obviously I have more than one computer and I have shared a few folders. I wanted to make a change so I tried to use gui for that and notice the problem.

Thanks for your help. Sorry for my english.
