Wireless and Wallet [Solved]

Hello,

I have the OS on hard disk - is that ok or will result in different outcome from livecd ?? I have double checked the wireless PW, and it is correct. When I set up the wireless connection, it goes fine and at the end Sabayon tells me that wireless is connected. I can open the wireless icon an it tells me I am connected. I am writing this on the router (hardwired, though) and have tested that wireless is working with my roku box (physically right next to the computer that I am having trouble with)

I have used speedtest before, and it would be fantastic if wireless was working and I could test it!!

Test with a live cd is a test with a default setup.
Because now you are using a manipulated harddisk setup, many things and settings are different.
So, that is always my first thing, I do after no solution on hard installation.
Could you launch live system then to connect wireless with your router (no cable!)?
Which wlan chip do you have, pls?

According to the Kinfocenter, I have an Intel Centrino Wireless N-120. I will move my system back over to the ethernet tomorrow, and see if Rigo has a special driver available.

I do not know about the live system, and how it works on a computer with the OS already on HD. I have invested a bunch of time updating the system to current, and would hate to throw in a bug that messed up the works. Beyond that, I installed over 900 upgrades to the 'live system', so that would be expected to perform worse??

Well, I went ahead and there is indeed firmware for the Centrino N-130. I could find no sign of it in rigo. I checked on the web and apparently a linux variant called iwlwifi has this driver.

Is there a Sabayon equivalent / is it buried somewhere in the repository??? Is this getting to much for the starters forum, and should I address this to the wifi section?

A live system doesn't touch your installed disk OS an any way, honestly.
No disk partition is mounted by default, all the OS is on cd or memory stick and run in your RAM.
That is the reason, why you can launch the live system and repair an installed OS, but only if you want to do.
With a live system you can also save files from hard disk (linux and NTFS also), you can restore, and
you can just try and play with a live system without use any hard disk.

You said, you have many updates?
Did you consider to download an actual 'Daily Build' from last night or finally SL 11?

After doing some more research, it seems that the driver for the Centrino n-130 is in lib/firmware - iwlwifi 6000g2b. Now I need to figure out how to methodically figure out if the system is using the driver with the card. Evidently the card is recognized and the driver is there, so something else is not working right. The fact that I am not seeing the n router on the wireless scan leads me to think that the driver is not being used??

If I get time today, I will try the live setup and see if I can get anywhere with that....

Have you tried to ping your router - in a terminal "ping 192.168.0.254" (insert your correct router IP address)?

Tried that and got " host unreachable " but taskbar Icon continues to say I am connected.... Maybe I've got some aspect of the setup in wireless network configuration gui wrong....

Hm, is the WiFi module loaded?
What does the following commands provide?

There's a Gentoo way to deal with your firmware, which can be found from portage. Be careful with mixing! Here's an overview about Portage. Have to go now :-/
