Cannot Print With HP OfficeJet 4500 All In 1 Printer

Postby SabayonHead » Fri Feb 01, 2013 7:24

Here's the situation, I have HPLIP installed, Everything is recognized in HPLIP. When I added the printer through HPLIP, it wasn't sure of the driver, so i had to locate it with the provided drivers.

There are a few 4500 drivers,

I took a guess in picking one ( I have no idea to know which I need exactly, besides the number of my printer ) so I picked one and it was setup.

I click on "Print test page"

Nothing.

I open a file, it shows the printer as an option to use but again, KDE recognizes that I clicked to print, and it doesn't show an error but the printer doesn't' do anything!

So now I am stuck on what to do?!

I did click "Alignment" and that did work, so I know it can communicate...but thats as far as it goes.

Thanks in advance

I now also notice it says "Filter Failed"

Did you install via CUPS or system settings? I have always found CUPS works better.

Did just now, it didn't make it easier... but, Seems now the error is more specific to what I noticed last.

"Filter Failed"

I found this

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions ... ed-818393/

So i deleted the printer & fax out of the HPLIP and tried:

running 'hp-setup -i' as root.

It seemed easier to install the "correct" file since it ends up doing it on it's own.

But still, nothing printing.

I had the same problem....you have to change the driver, you have to use the Cups specific driver for your printer...you have to change it in Cups and in hplip...then it prints like a charm, when you change the driver in Cups the Cups driver will have cups in the file name, however when you change it in hplip, it will be the one that doesn't have ijs in the file name...ppd will be in the filename
