Problem with Touchpad!

Postby vfafou » Sat Jan 26, 2013 0:16

Hello!
I have installed Sabayon 10 KDE 32bit on an Asus eee pc 1008ha.
All was perfect until the latest update, that caused the touchpad to not working.
I searched everywhere, I tried many workarounds but nothing works. I have synaptics driver installed, but when I try modprobe synaptics, says that the module not found!
I tried to boot at the latest daily iso and the problem is the same, so something goes wrong with the latest build!
Any idea will be appreciated!
Thank you in advance!

Thank you very much aia.
The problem is that the module synaptics does not load at startup.
I figured a strange behavior a few minutes ago. I restarted the eee pc and noticed that during the KDE splash screen, the touchpad worked for a while but suddenly stopped.
I believe that it is a problem with kernel or with driver because less command does not show the touchpad as device.

Another idea:
Try to switch your touchpad with your combination of
->funtion key(Fn) + the ->matching key for switch touchpad on/off. Most it is a symbol with a hand on a square and a circle.

I say this, because in my lsmod list there is no synaptics (or anything like syn). What means, synaptics isn't loaded.

But my touchpad is working. I can use mouse or touchpad both to move the mouse pointer.

Hello linuxfluesterer!
Thank you for your reply.
I tried this already but nothing happened.
I hope there is a solution and I believe that would be easy!

I can't see any error messages in your log file that relate to the touchpad.

Have you checked whether the touchpad is enabled in System Settings?

Do you have xf86-input-mouse and xf86-input-keyboard installed? If you do, uninstall them. You should only have xf86-input-evdev and xf86-input-synaptics installed.

Do you have the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf or any files in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory? If you do, do any of them contain any lines relating to the touchpad? If any of them do, try commenting out all the lines relating to the touchpad and creating a separate file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-synaptics.conf containing the following:

Code: Select all
Section "InputClass"
   Identifier "touchpad"
   Driver "synaptics"
   MatchIsTouchpad "on"
      Option "TapButton1" "1"
      Option "TapButton2" "2"
      Option "TapButton3" "3"
      Option "VertEdgeScroll" "on"
      Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "on"
      Option "HorizEdgeScroll" "on"
      Option "HorizTwoFingerScroll" "on"
      Option "CircularScrolling" "on"
      Option "CircScrollTrigger" "2"
      Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinZ" "40"
      Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinW" "8"
      Option "LeftEdge" "1700" # x coord left
      Option "RightEdge" "5300" # x coord right
      Option "TopEdge" "1700" # y coord top
      Option "BottomEdge" "4200" # y coord bottom
Option "FingerLow" "25" # pressure below this level triggers release
Option "FingerHigh" "30" # pressure above this level triggers touch
Option "MaxTapTime" "180" # max time in ms for detecting tap
EndSection

and reboot. If there are no lines in /etc/X11/xorg.conf or /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/* relating to the touchpad, create the above-mentioned file anyway, and see if it makes a difference after you reboot.

Hello Fitzcarraldo!
Thank you for your reply!
Unfortunately, nothing happened with your suggestion. The bad news is that booting from the latest build, I have the same issue!
I think that there is a problem with KDE 4.9.5 because I boot at Gnome latest build and all are good!
