LXDE is a bit smaller and faster than XFCE. Last but not least because of the programs used. The main difference (see here
) is, that Xfce focus on features, whereas LXDE focus on lightness.
But if you don't shrink from editing config files, you may also want to have a look on window managers like Fluxbox, Openbox, I3, awesome and many, many more
… Note that there isn't always a GUI to configure them …
