Sabayon install, first update takes a long time [Solved]

Hello everyone, as a newcomer to sabayon, i have a question re; installation. I have just installed sabayon 10/KDE
all went well, am now updating system. This is taking a lot longer than i anticipated, so far about 1 1/2 hours and it is now
at 53% complete. Is this normal? I am using the internet connection at the public library so i know it is a good connection.
I wanted to do the update as the last time i tried installing a sabayon distro it didn't seem to want to work so i have been
waiting until i could get to the library and hopefully get everything up to speed so to speak, right from the start.
I am new to KDE so am wondering about installing firefox as default browser?

Yes, it is normal, the first update always take a long time, though every package is downloaded in the first phase, so you need network connection only as long as it needs to download the packages from the net, once that is done, it will just unpack them to the hard disk and perform the installation (that is the longest part).

To switch your browser to firefox, just install it:
(as root)

equo install firefox


And switch it to your preferred web browser using your desktop environment preferences (usually in the control center).

I have no inside knowledge, but it seems as the package count hits 500+/- updates, an updated ISO for install isn't far off in the future.

If your bandwidth is sufficient, these two commands as root will help (sabayon-weekly is repo name, substitute as needed)

 equo repo sabayon-weekly mirrorsort

finds and sets up the logically fastest mirror for you to download from.

The other is to do updates like so, usually a bit faster:

equo update && equo upgrade --multifetch=10

The default is 3 package downloads in parallel, if your connection supports more bandwidth (e.g. 10Mbps or better?) the max is 10 in parallel, which the above does for you.
