wireless connection

Hello; I have installed sabayon 10/ kde. While i had a wired connection at the library it was working fine, now at home i am
unable to connect to my wireless network, it does see the network but i cannot find the tools to set it up, all help appreciated.
This is the only distro to date which has given me this problem.

If you are using KDE4, the application that provides the network management interface is called networkmanagement, KDE should offer a network icon in the panel, with the appropriate tools to connect to any wireless networks.

Thank you for the reply, I must be missing something,i have tried every icon relative to network and internet but just get
error messages.

What kind of error messages?

Words to the effect, network management not set up. I wanted to take a screenshot but realized i have no way to post it anyway.
If it helps i am using the default setting for the desktop session, but had no luck with mate either.
It probably doesn't help that i can no longer read the SSID # on the back of my air card. I had no problem connecting with
KDE when i was using kubuntu.

An update here, i have reinstalled kubuntu and am currently using that to go online, i really wanted to try sabayon but it looks like kubuntu is a better alternative for me.

Well, you're free to use whatever fits better, anyway your issue was probably related to the fact you didn't have NetworkManager running, which is pretty strange given the fact that Sabayon has it running by default.
You could have enabled it with:
(as root)

rc-update add NetworkManager default
/etc/init.d/NetworkManager start

if don't provide any info about your system (network card etc.), any logs nor error messages, no one will be able to help you.

If you are this guy from IRC with the BCM4312 card, have a look in the Gentoo Wiki and check if you have the needed firmware installed and modules loaded.

Hello again; Thank you for the response ,i appreciate it. I have copied down the error message.
Without typing the entirety , it is in part
Error failed:Action org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.settings.modify.own is not registered.

My desktop is now telling me there are 66 updates available, this may have something to do with it.
I tried the code micia suggested, here i get "command not found" message. When i have access to a wired connection
again i will try to copy and paste it into the terminal.
I will also have to wait to do the remaining updates until i get back to the public library as well. A wired connection is
not an option for me at home.

To help clarify my situation, i am a patient man, i don't give up easily on any linux system as the problems are due in
large part to my own lack of experience and computer proficiency.
The fact that i have spent over a month waiting and trying to get a working sabayon system can attest to that.

From what i have seen of sabayon so far ,i like and will persevere to give it an honest trial, i do appreciate every offer
to help. This is not a case of whatever fits better though, rather if kubuntu connects to the internet and sabayon
doesn't, which one would you use?

That is the problem, you seem to have some issues running NetworkManager, apparently there is some issues with dbus, the whole error would be better though, it is impossible to determine if that error is the result of other errors.
If you are able to connect to a wired network (for example by connecting a cable to the eth0 interface and running: dhcpcd eth0 as root), you would be able to pastebin your logs.
You might check on /var/log/messages for more informations.

Well, Sabayon definitely can connect to the internet, as I use it as my only operating system in more than 4 machines, so maybe it doesn't work for you, while kubuntu does, so it definitely fits better, or works better, for you.
