Read-only filesystem [Solved]

Postby 5n4r35 » Mon Dec 24, 2012 23:05

I had a working install, but I updated last night and something broke it. Now the the root filesystem mounts as read-only. I can fix this by logging in as root and mount -n -o remount / I can startx but it just brings up a bunch of xterm windows. How do I fix this so that it mounts correct when I boot?

One possible cause of the root filesystem being mounted read-only is lack of file space on the root partition. Have you checked that? Your best bet is to boot the LiveDVD and chroot into the installation to check that and, if it is indeed the reason, clear some space.

After last upgrade I have the same problem.

Code: Select all
Filesystem                     1K-blocks     Used Available Use% Mounted on
rootfs                          40994128 40132284         0 100% /
udev                               10240        4     10236   1% /dev
/dev/mapper/vg_sabayon-lv_root  40994128 40132284         0 100% /
tmpfs                            4071624      808   4070816   1% /run
cgroup_root                        10240        0     10240   0% /sys/fs/cgroup
shm                              4071624        0   4071624   0% /dev/shm
/dev/sdb2                      104806384 26447696  78358688  26% /windata
/dev/sdb3                      104806400 17509896  87296504  17% /data
/dev/sdb5                       52403184 23220704  29182480  45% /fatdata
/dev/sdb7                         495844    45844    424400  10% /boot

I am surprised. It never happened before and I am sure that before upgrade there where some 50% in use. What can I afford to remove? All directories are important and /tmp is empty.

Thanks Sabayonino. Now there is 58% in use. I thought that after upgrade the system is cleaned automatically.
